LA-NOR GUNDOGS http://www.la-nor-gundogs.co.uk/ My name is Jez Case and I have more than 20 years experience with gundogs. I have worked with both Springer and Cocker Spaniels in the beating line, as well as Labradors behind the guns both on large estate shoots and small family / syndicate shoots. My passion for training dogs comes from the great satisfaction of helping others to achieve a working partnership with their dog. In my experience every dog is an individual character, with its own personality and unique qualities. With this in mind, training is carried out in both a professional and patient manner, depending on the dog's abilities. Through one-to-one training I can help you to develop a level of understanding of both yours and your dog's needs. Ultimately, my aim is to obtain a standard which will make you proud in either a shooting / working environment, or to compete in gundog trials. If you want help with your dog, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will do my best to assist you.

Matt was born in 1979 and educated and brought up in North Bedfordshire. From his early teens he helped on local shoots and was involved in beating and helping with clay shoots and had a fascination for all elements of hunting, shooting and fishing. He started his professional life at Sparsholt College in 1995 doing a First Diploma in Game and Wild Life and in 1996 followed this up with a National Certificate in Game and Water Keeping. Work experience during the course equipped him for his first job as underkeeper at Springhead Estate in West Sussex between 1997 and 2001. Springhead is a downland shoot of exceptional quality. His next position was as the pheasant keeper at Gunnerside Estate, North Yorkshire between 2001 and 2005. Working as the pheasant keeper amongst some of the best grousekeepers in the country he benefitted from their wisdom about game management and in particular about predator control. Matt next became head keeper of Nantclywd estate in North Wales which was run as a commercial shoot for four years between 2005 and 2009. His experience in ‘The Making of Nantclywd’ was featured by Mike Yardley in the Shooting Gazette ( October 2008 Issue 204 pp 28-32) In 2009 Matt became head keeper at the Hexton Shoot in Hertfordshire where he worked for a syndicate run by the William Powell Sporting Team. At the end of the first season the syndicate broke up and the opportunity came to run Hexton shoot independently which he has now been doing for two years. During this time he has built up a loyal, regular clientele and looks forward to developing it further. Matt has been commended for his modern methods and his passion and as having an air of competence and confidence. Hexton Shoot covers 3500 acres, has twelve drives and is mainly arable land. The shoot is fully equipped to run in a resourceful and professional way. Quad bikes are his main accessory to dogging in and feeding the pheasants accompanied by a team of eight spaniels: seven cocker and one springer, and two Alsatians as guard dogs. His ethos for his shoot days is to ‘give direction without it being too compelling and trying not to hurry people but give them a predictable agenda’. Matt is married and they are expecting their first child in November.

In 1993 Nicholas started growing crops on set-aside land especially for the birds to harvest over the winter months. In 1994 there were so many birds feeding in these areas Nicholas decided to open the farm to the public to come and have a look with all donations going to the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. People began asking if they could buy the seed he was feeding the birds and Vine House Farm Birds Foods was born.

    William Alldis

Raised on the family farm in Epping, William Alldis picked up a rifle around the same time he picked up a saucepan – aged five. His father Michael taught him a good eye in the barn with an air rifle, then swiftly progressed him to shotguns, from where he’s never looked back. William’s grandmother, and mother Isabel, took on joint responsibility for his cooking prowess – we believe the first recipe he mastered was ‘Granny Biscuits’. Both shooting and cooking remained William’s passions while he attended Cirencester’s Royal Agricultural College, which he left to become a full-time chef. His immense talent for cookery remained somewhat of a national secret due to his severe dyslexia until he met and married his magazine editor wife Abigail, who helped him launch this blog. It was somewhat of a shotgun marriage, as they were engaged within five days of meeting. Naturally, her wedding gifts from William included a stout pair of Hunter wellies, a subscription to The Field, an antique shotgun and a falcon called Feathers. Being branded ‘the most stylish’ ‘laidback’ and ‘natural’ shot many accomplished guns have ever seen, William continues to combine his passion for photography, wildlife, food and, of course, shooting with his soon to be published cookery book The Shotgun Chef and highly successful pop up game restaurants he holds in the fishing village of Wivenhoe.

    William Church

Born and raised in the Essex countryside, will has been fishing since the age of 7. He has a particular love of fly fishing in rivers, however is not averse to using just about any method for any fish in any water where there’s sport to be had. Will regularly fishes the Salisbury and District chalk streams, various hill lochs and salmon streams on the West coast of Scotland, and enjoys coastal sea fishing, from boat or land, by rod, net or pot. He can also be found on occasions on the Welsh and Scottish Dees, and the Sussex Ouse. He is as at home picking grilse from sun shrunk rivers as he is pulling crabs from pots, or spey casting on the Dee. Will is a keen cook, having a small fish and meat smoking enterprise; he enjoys hand building rods (for friends rather than commercially these days), and has some history of tying sub standard flies. Will classes himself as a fisher who shoots, rather than the other way round. During his time off from fishing, he enjoys stalking in the highlands, most types of game and rough shooting, sailing and also has a microbrewery.
