The Feathers Hotel in Woodstock, holder of the Guinness World Record for the largest number of gins, totalling 181 bottles, is searching for the best Sloe Gin in the UK.
The Sloe Gin Challenge will be held Friday 29 and Saturday 30 November 2013. Â Â The judging will take place on the 29 November, with the open public day on the 30 November 2013.
Both home-brewers and commercial producers can enter, with a prize being awarded for the best in each category. Â The top three gins from each category will then go head-to-head in order to crown an overall winner.
The first day of the challenge will see expert judges Adam Pawlowski, Head Sommelier at the Michelin starred Northcote Manor in Lancashire, Rob Clayton, Michelin Star Chef at Claytonâ€™s Kitchen at The Porter in Bath, David Smith at Summer Fruit Cup, and Craig Harper who is the On-Trade Manager at Fever-Tree blind sample and score each of the gins out of a total score of 100.
The second day will be a ticketed event open to the public, priced at Â£15 per person. Â These guests can enjoy a short welcome talk before sampling the award-winning gins.
The Feathers Hotel, a member of Pride of Britain, is an inviting country retreat that combines historic charm with a fun personality.Â The hotel is renowned for its dedicated â€˜Gin Barâ€™ and has the largest collection of gins in the world.
Rules & regulations: Entrants must be 18 years or over and declare if the gin is â€œcommercialâ€ or â€œhome-madeâ€.Â Entries must be a minimum sample size of 700ml in a sealed glass container and will not be returned to the entrant. Â The product must be a gin based concoction and use an infusion of fruit (no essence-only products will be allowed). Â The gin can be from a previous year, not only a 2013 vintage. Fresh or frozen sloes are allowed. Â All entries must reach The Feathers Hotel by Monday, 18 November 2013.
