Successful event raises the roof for charity

Article written by 21 February 2013

It has just been announced that over the past twelve years an annual lunch and sporting auction held at Arley Hall by kind permission of Lord and Lady Ashbrook has raised an impressive £200,000 for research carried out by the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT); one of the UK’s leading wildlife research charities.

This annual event, organised by the hard-working Cheshire committee of the GWCT is now an established event in the calendar for all those that support the GWCT’s ground-breaking research in the county. A recent event held this month at Arley Hall, continued this successful track-record by raising a further £15,000 to fund important studies on wildlife conservation issues, such as woodcock research, wild grey partridge declines and the development of farmland wildlife crops that benefit species such as bees, wild birds and other beneficial insects.

The Arley Estate is well known for its Hall and gardens and offers many countryside activities throughout the year. There is a comprehensive equine center and the mature woodland provides quality game shooting.

At this year’s event, 158 tickets were sold to attend the delicious four-course lunch in the impressive setting of Arley Hall. This was followed by an exciting auction offering 11 auction lots, which raised a total of £11,000 during the event. The ‘win your weight in beer’ tombola kindly sponsored by Frederic Robinsons Brewery, Stockport, was certainly a huge success and this alone raised £1,450 during the lunch.

The GWCT is very grateful to the donors of all the auction lots and all those who supported and attended the lunch, not to mention the GWCT’s Cheshire committee whose dedication continue to make this a hugely successful annual fund-raising event.

This active committee is planning further events in the future, including a Sporting Clay Shoot on Friday 12th April 2013. Everyone is welcome to attend this fun event. For more details please contact Sarah Matson on 01948 661342 or by email at smatson@gwct.org.uk.
