John Field is a Seyntex brand and was founded in 1908. Seyntex specializes in military, police, fire-fighting fabrics, garments and equipment, such as bullet proof jackets, fire-fighting suits and many more. John field offers a collection of shooting clothing and accessories that are technical, functional and elegant. Each product of the John Field collection has been designed for a specific purpose of use. The materials that compose the products have been selected accordingly and they have tried to integrate eco-friendly materials as much as possible.

The Hurricane Coat is an unusual shooting coat in that it is three-quarter length waterproof and one of the very few long waterproof coats available to Guns to shoot in.

Made from recycled microfibre polyester TEX³, which is a soft outer fabric with a green soft net type lining, this coat feels good to touch and light to wear. It has been designed as a proper three-quarter length waterproof shooting coat and John Field’s pedigree derives from supplying waterproof outerwear to the European Military. It is as a result 100% waterproof and extremely windproof, despite its weightlessness.

There is a high storm collar which doesn’t rub the neck as well as strong zip and studded outer flat over the zip. A minor criticism would be that until they are used a few times, the studs seem to be a little stiff.  The coat is studded for a hood, has two good sized cartridge pockets with magnetic lift-up flaps (and importantly drain holes at the bottom of the pockets) and very unusually, has two easy-to-fit leg tie-on straps.  This is so that when it is windy, the bottom of the coat will not lift up, causing the lower part of the wearer to get wet.  The cuffs are adjustable and have an elasticated inner sleeve to prevent water running down the wearers arm. The unusual cut at the back and the fact that it has a good central pleat, allows excellent movement when wearing the coat to swing a gun.

This really is a coat that a lot of people will want to wear who do not like leggings or waterproof trousers, even though they can be worn with it (indeed John Field make their own waterproof over trousers as well).

All in all, this is a very unusual and extremely high quality waterproof coat, which the serious Gun should buy (not expensive at £175.00), for additional protection.
