Shoots to Let
Article written by Mark Osborne - FRICS, FAAV, MBAE 18 July 2013
Most of the time, at William Powell Sporting, we are involved in letting Shooting by the day on Estates up and down the country, but it is interesting to see two Grouse Moors recently that have come up to let on leases.
The first is Barningham Moor in North Yorkshire, which is a two day, two keeper Moor, and is to let for 10 years. This is a performing Moor on the edge of the best Grouse County in the UK. It may be possible to rent the adjoining Low Ground Shoot as well. An usual package of quality.
The other is Leadhills, perhaps Scotland’s most famous Grouse Moor even though it is rather more English than Scottish being only a 30-minute drive from the border. Leadhills is capable of shooting up to six consecutive days (thereby allowing overseas or Southern based sportsmen to shoot for a week at a time) and has been the subject of major investment in recent years. Leadhills is probably one of the most productive Grouse Moors in the UK and very unusually is already producing very meaningful quantities of Grouse. If someone wanted, the Moor could be split into two separate entities or perhaps a small group of friends could share the costs.
Leadhills Moor is to let through Savills – contact Roddy Willis RWillis@savills.com or telephone on 01356 628 620.
